about concept81

The 81st Wildcat Division was a WW1 era US infantry division established in 1917. They are recognized by many as being the first US Army division to implement a shoulder-sleeve insignia, aka morale patch, on their uniforms, to show their brotherhood and to identify each other. We decided on our name, Concept81, because of the Wildcats and their story.

The division took its name from a nearby creek at their home base in South Carolina. All 27,000 troops in the Division were shipped off to France in the Summer of 1918, and shortly after were pushed to the front lines.

They were committed to the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, the largest US operation of WW1. Its infantry regiments, the 321st, 322nd, 323rd, and 324th, fought primarily around Bois des Loges, France. They endured heavy artillery fire, gas attacks, and counter attacks until the armistice of November 11, 1918.

The Wildcats suffered thousands of casualties, roughly 1,100 wounded and 4,000 killed, in the span of a just few weeks. The Wildcats returned to the States in 1919, and are still active today, under the name 81st Readiness Division.

We owe everything to the brave men of WW1 and WW2, without them the world would be a much different place. This is our way of showing respect to our fallen troops!
